Scunthorpe Gateway
Football Club

The idea of forming a disabled
football team was put to the Gateway members in the summer of 2005. It was
greeted with great enthusiasm by the and before long the members were busy
designing a club badge and choosing the colours for the kit. We are extremely
grateful to HeartWell for their support and funding which helped set the team up
and turn our dream into reality.
The official launch of the team was at Glanford park on the 17th of April 2006.
The team paraded on the pitch in front of the fans at half time in the match
against Swindon Town, it was a great day!
The team have since played in four tournaments and have been amazing, making
great progress! We made our first final in a tournament in Thorne, unfortunately
losing out to Cleethorpes, 4 – 3, in a thrilling match which included a last
minute penalty equalizer, extra time and a last minute winner! The team spirit
is great and the moral is high, but best of all is that the members are having
lots of fun and keeping fit, it won’t be long before S.G.F.C. wins their first
final!
